First days of kindergarten
Beginning your child’s early learning education is an exciting and big step. Each child is unique, and it can take time to adjust to new routines, faces and environments. We offer these tips to help your child make an enjoyable and positive transition to Glenroy West Kindergarten.
Tips for starting kindergarten
- Visit our kindergarten with your child – meet the teacher and educators, stay and play and get a feel for the environment
- Talk to your child about what the first day will involve
- Call us or approach us before or after kindergarten sessions to ensure your child is settling in or to raise any concerns
- Show interest in your child’s sessions, ask them what they enjoyed doing and take time to look at artwork they’ve produced during the session.
- Be mindful that your child may be tired and may not share as much information as you’d like!
What to do on their first day
- Spend a few minutes settling your child into kindergarten
- Hang up your child’s bag together
- Look at some toys or an activity together
- Reassure your child that you will be there to pick them up
- Say goodbye to your child to promote trust and security
- Once you have said goodbye leave promptly
- Ring us if you have any concerns
- Arrive on time to pick your child up to build trust
